Ingredients

  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • 1 large egg + 1 egg yolk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9×13 inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. Brown the butter in a saucepan over medium heat until it turns golden brown and smells nutty.
  3. Combine brown sugar, egg, egg yolk, and vanilla extract in a mixing bowl. Stir in the cooled brown butter.
  4. Fold in flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking soda until just combined.
  5. Cream together the brown sugar, butter, egg, and vanilla in another bowl for the cookie dough.
  6. Mix in the flour, baking soda, and salt, then fold in the chocolate chips.
  7. Pour the brownie batter into the prepared pan and spread it evenly.
  8. Scoop dollops of cookie dough over the brownie layer.
  9. Bake for 25–30 minutes or until edges are set; a toothpick should come out with a few moist crumbs.
  10. Cool for at least 20 minutes before slicing into squares.

Notes

For extra flavor, consider adding white chocolate chips or nuts. Serve with a sprinkle of sea salt or a scoop of ice cream for a delightful treat.
