Description

Char Siu Chicken always brings a sense of celebration to the table. Inspired by the sweet and savory flavors of traditional Chinese BBQ, this version is easy enough for weeknights but tasty enough for guests. Whether you grill, roast, or broil it, the sticky glaze and tender meat are pure comfort with a flavorful twist.

Ingredients

Scale

4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs

¼ cup hoisin sauce

2 tbsp soy sauce

2 tbsp honey

1 tbsp Chinese rice wine or dry sherry

1 tbsp sesame oil

2 garlic cloves, minced

1 tsp five-spice powder

½ tsp ground ginger

Salt and pepper, to taste

Sliced green onions, for garnish

Toasted sesame seeds, for garnish

Instructions

Make Marinade: In a bowl, whisk together hoisin, soy sauce, honey, rice wine, sesame oil, garlic, five-spice, ginger, salt, and pepper.

Marinate Chicken: Place chicken in a zip-top bag or dish and coat with marinade. Marinate in the fridge for at least 1 hour, ideally overnight.

Cook: Preheat oven to 400°F or grill to medium-high. Bake or grill chicken for 20–25 minutes, turning once and basting with extra marinade.

Finish & Garnish: Once cooked through and caramelized, let rest 5 minutes. Slice and sprinkle with green onions and sesame seeds.

Notes

Sticky, savory, and packed with flavor—this Char Siu Chicken is a sweet escape in every bite.
