4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs
¼ cup hoisin sauce

2 tbsp honey
1 tbsp Chinese rice wine or dry sherry
1 tbsp sesame oil
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 tsp five-spice powder
½ tsp ground ginger
Salt and pepper, to taste
Sliced green onions, for garnish
Toasted sesame seeds, for garnish
Make Marinade: In a bowl, whisk together hoisin, soy sauce, honey, rice wine, sesame oil, garlic, five-spice, ginger, salt, and pepper.
Marinate Chicken: Place chicken in a zip-top bag or dish and coat with marinade. Marinate in the fridge for at least 1 hour, ideally overnight.
Cook: Preheat oven to 400°F or grill to medium-high. Bake or grill chicken for 20–25 minutes, turning once and basting with extra marinade.
Finish & Garnish: Once cooked through and caramelized, let rest 5 minutes. Slice and sprinkle with green onions and sesame seeds.
