A comfort food classic made extra indulgent! Creamy green beans baked with cheddar, Gruyère, or parmesan and topped with a golden panko-cheese crust. Perfect for holidays—or anytime you crave cozy, cheesy goodness.
Ingredients
1 ½ lbs fresh green beans, trimmed (or 4 cups frozen)
2 tbsp butter
1 small onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 tbsp flour
1 cup milk
1 cup chicken or veggie broth
1 cup shredded cheddar
½ cup Gruyère or parmesan
Salt & pepper, to taste
Topping:
1 cup panko breadcrumbs
½ cup shredded cheese (any combo)
2 tbsp butter, melted
Instructions
Blanch beans: Cook green beans in boiling salted water 3–4 mins, then drain and set aside.
Make sauce: In a skillet, melt butter. Sauté onion + garlic until soft. Stir in flour, cook 1 min. Slowly whisk in milk + broth until smooth and thickened. Add cheeses, stir until melted. Season.
Combine: Toss green beans in sauce, then transfer to greased baking dish.
Top: Mix panko, cheese, and melted butter. Sprinkle evenly over casserole.
Bake: 375°F (190°C) for 20–25 mins, until bubbly and golden.
