Description

This one-pot orzo recipe brings together tender pasta, juicy chicken sausage, and vibrant broccoli in a garlicky, herb-infused broth. It’s creamy, cozy, and packed with flavor—all ready in 30 minutes. Whether you’re cooking for the family or meal prepping for the week, this dish delivers major comfort with minimal cleanup.

Ingredients

Scale

4 cups orzo pasta

2 tablespoons olive oil

2 pounds chicken sausage, sliced (smoked or Italian-style works best)

4 cups broccoli florets (fresh or frozen)

6 cloves garlic, minced

8 cups chicken broth

2 teaspoons Italian seasoning

Salt and pepper to taste

1 cup grated Parmesan cheese

¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for a kick)

2 tablespoons lemon juice (for brightness)

¼ cup chopped fresh parsley (for garnish)

Instructions

Sauté Sausage: In a large skillet or Dutch oven, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add sliced chicken sausage and cook until browned. Remove and set aside.

Build Flavor: In the same pot, add garlic and orzo. Sauté for 2 minutes until fragrant and lightly toasted.

Simmer: Pour in chicken broth and add broccoli florets, Italian seasoning, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Bring to a simmer.

Cook Orzo: Stir occasionally and cook until the orzo is tender and most of the liquid is absorbed (about 10–12 minutes).

Finish: Stir in cooked sausage, Parmesan cheese, and lemon juice. Mix until creamy and well combined.

Serve: Garnish with parsley and extra Parmesan. Serve hot!
