Description

A delicious and fun recipe for soft, sweet, and salty Easter pretzels, perfect for your holiday celebrations.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups All-Purpose Flour
  • 2¼ teaspoons Instant Yeast
  • 2 tablespoons Granulated Sugar
  • 1½ cups Warm Water
  • 1 tablespoon Salt
  • ½ cup Baking Soda
  • 1 Egg (whisked)
  • Coarse Sea Salt (for sprinkling)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Your Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water, granulated sugar, and instant yeast. Allow it to sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add the Flour and Salt: Stir in all-purpose flour and salt until forming a shaggy dough.
  3. Knead the Dough: Knead the dough for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Adjust moisture if needed.
  4. Let it Rise: Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  5. Shape Your Pretzels: Divide the dough into 8 pieces, roll each into a rope, and twist into a pretzel shape.
  6. Create the Boiling Soda Bath: Simmer water with baking soda. Boil pretzels for 30 seconds on each side.
  7. Glaze and Salt: Brush boiled pretzels with whisked egg and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
  8. Bake Away: Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C) and bake pretzels for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. Cool and Serve: Allow to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy with dips!

Notes

For a vegan option, replace the egg with almond milk mixed with maple syrup. You can also experiment with flavored salts and toppings.
