Description

A comforting dish of creamy, cheesy layered potatoes, perfect for family gatherings or cozy dinners.


Ingredients

  • 3 pounds russet or Yukon Gold potatoes
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • Salt, to taste
  • Pepper, to taste
  • A pinch of nutmeg (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Peel and slice potatoes thinly, about 1/8 inch thick.
  3. In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat, add onion and garlic, sauté for 3-4 minutes.
  4. Pour in cream, add salt, pepper, and nutmeg, and let it simmer for about 5 minutes.
  5. In a baking dish, layer sliced potatoes, drizzle cream sauce, and sprinkle cheese. Repeat layers until all ingredients are used.
  6. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes, then uncover and bake for another 20-25 minutes until golden and bubbly.
  7. Let cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

For added flavor, try mixing in fresh herbs or different cheese varieties. You can also layer in sautéed veggies or crumbled bacon for a twist.
