Ingredients
Scale
- Spaghetti (whole wheat, gluten-free, or zucchini noodles)
- 1 lb lean ground beef
- 1 lb smoked sausage (or turkey sausage)
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 1 bell pepper (mix of colors)
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 28 oz crushed tomatoes
- 15 oz tomato sauce
- 2 tsp Italian seasoning
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- Fresh basil (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Boil water in a large pot, then add spaghetti and cook until al dente, about 8-10 minutes.
- Drain the spaghetti and set aside.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté onion and bell peppers for 5-7 minutes.
- Add ground beef and smoked sausage, cooking until browned, about 8 minutes.
- Stir in garlic and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute.
- Pour in crushed tomatoes and tomato sauce, then season with Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10-15 minutes.
- Combine cooked spaghetti with the sauce, tossing to coat evenly.
- Top with Parmesan cheese and fresh basil before serving hot.
Notes
Avoid rinsing the spaghetti after draining, as the starch helps the sauce adhere. Feel free to customize with meat substitutes or additional vegetables.
