Ingredients
¼ cup butter, cubed
½ cup brown sugar
1 (29 oz) can pear halves, sliced into quarters
1 lb sourdough bread, cut into 1-inch cubes
2½ cups large eggs (about 6 eggs)
1½ cups milk
2 tbsp white sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
½ tsp almond extract
¼ cup sliced almonds
Instructions
Prep the Base
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
Scatter butter cubes and brown sugar evenly on the bottom of the dish.
Layer pear slices over the sugar, followed by cubed sourdough.
Make the Custard
In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, white sugar, vanilla, and almond extract until well combined.
Pour mixture evenly over the bread and pears. Lightly press bread down to soak.
Top & Bake
Sprinkle with sliced almonds.
Bake uncovered for 45–50 minutes, or until golden and set in the center.
Serve
Cool slightly before slicing. Serve warm with whipped cream or a dusting of powdered sugar if desired.
