  • Author: Emily Walker

Description

This homemade apple butter is fall in a jar—rich, spiced, and ridiculously easy to make. With just apples, warm spices, and your slow cooker, you’ll have a smooth, deeply flavored spread that’s perfect on toast, biscuits, or even straight off the spoon. No canning required—just let it cook low and slow.

Ingredients

Scale

5 lbs apples (Gala or any variety), peeled, cored, and chopped

1 cup brown sugar, packed

1 tbsp ground cinnamon

½ tsp ground nutmeg

¼ tsp ground cloves

2 dashes salt

Instructions

Load the slow cooker: Add chopped apples to your slow cooker. Sprinkle over brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt. Stir to coat.

Cook: Cover and cook on LOW for 10 hours, stirring occasionally, until apples are very soft and dark.

Blend: Use an immersion blender (or transfer to a blender) to puree until silky smooth.

Thicken (optional): For thicker apple butter, cook uncovered for 1–2 more hours, stirring occasionally.

Store: Let cool, then store in jars or airtight containers. Keep refrigerated for up to 2 weeks or freeze for longer storage.
