- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- Powdered sugar (for dusting)
- Vegetable oil (for frying)
Instructions
- Mix the Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Whisk them together until well blended.
- Incorporate Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Combine Wet and Dry: Gradually pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients, stirring gently with a spatula.
- Knead Your Dough: Lightly flour your countertop and turn the dough onto it. Knead gently for about 1 to 2 minutes.
- Let it Rise: Place your dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour.
- Roll and Cut: Turn the risen dough onto a floured surface and roll it out to about 1/2 inch thick. Cut out circles.
- Heat the Oil: In a large skillet, heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry Away: Fry the beignets in batches for about 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown.
- Drain and Dust: Use a slotted spoon to remove them and place them on a paper towel line. Dust generously with powdered sugar.
- Serve: Arrange them on a platter and serve while still warm.
Notes
Fry in small batches to maintain oil temperature and ensure crispy beignets. Experiment with flavors by adding spices or fillings.
