Description
Delightful bite-sized mini corn dog bites that capture the magic of county fairs, perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup yellow cornmeal
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 large egg
- Hot dogs (mini or regular)
- Oil for frying
Instructions
- Prepare the Batter: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
- Mix Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, beat together the buttermilk and egg until smooth. Slowly pour this mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
- Heat the Oil: In a large, deep skillet or fryer, heat about 3 inches of oil to 350°F (175°C).
- Prep the Hot Dogs: Cut regular-sized hot dogs into thirds or quarters, then insert wooden skewers into each piece.
- Batter the Hot Dogs: Dip each hot dog piece into the batter, allowing excess to drip off before placing in hot oil.
- Fry to Perfection: Fry each batch for about 3-4 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to remove them.
- Serve and Enjoy: Repeat the process until all mini corn dog bites are cooked and serve hot with your favorite dipping sauces.
Notes
Serve with mustard, ketchup, or ranch dressing. Garnish with parsley or pickle spears for color.
