Ingredients

- 1 package of pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
- 1 cup warm water (about 110°F)
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 1 tablespoon baking soda
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup pizza sauce (store-bought or homemade)
- Optional toppings: pepperoni, bell peppers, mushrooms, olives
Instructions
- Mix the warm water and sugar in a large bowl. Stir in the active dry yeast and let it sit for about 5–10 minutes until bubbly and frothy.
- Combine 3 cups of flour and salt in another bowl. Gently fold the activated yeast mixture into the flour mixture.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Form the dough into a ball, place it in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 60 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C) while bringing about 10 cups of water to a boil, adding the baking soda once boiling.
- Roll the risen dough out into a rectangle about 1/2-inch thick and transfer to a greased baking dish.
- Cut the dough into strips and boil them in the baking soda water for about 30 seconds before placing them back in the dish.
- Spread the pizza sauce over the dough and top with shredded mozzarella cheese and any desired toppings.
- Bake for about 15–20 minutes, until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
- Let it cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
Notes
For a fun twist, serve with a fresh garden salad and a crispy cold drink.
