- 1 loaf French or Italian bread
- 1 pound ground beef (or ground turkey or plant-based meat)
- 1 packet taco seasoning
- 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar, Monterey Jack, or pepper jack)
- 1 medium tomato, diced
- 1 cup shredded lettuce
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 2–3 cloves garlic, minced
- Optional toppings: sour cream, salsa, jalapeños, or guacamole
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add minced garlic, letting it infuse for about a minute. Add your ground beef, cooking until browned (5-7 minutes).
- Stir in the taco seasoning and 1/3 cup water. Let it simmer for about 5 minutes.
- Slice the loaf of bread horizontally. Spread butter or olive oil and minced garlic on both sides.
- Toast the bread on a baking sheet in the oven for 5-7 minutes until golden.
- Layer the taco filling on the toasted side, then sprinkle cheese on top.
- Return to the oven for 5-10 minutes until cheese is melted.
- Top with shredded lettuce and any desired toppings.
